Gas flow

#1 PostAuthor: big green bus » Mon Jul 29, 2013 9:25 pm

What kind of money could you expect to pay for head work? Mate mate paid £200 for a cb900f gas flow and it looked like some t**t with a dremil had spent ten minutes I could have done better! The only I knew who was any good had a flow bench

.you be lucky to find a top man who can flow a cb900 to a top spec in this country, bit of a dark art with them motors, try rodger upperton, hes doing a cb1127 motor shortly,(I hope),price will depend on spec, your mate should of dynoded his motor before and after the head work to see what the results are, most engine builders don't use a flow bench

Cylinder Head work

#5 PostAuthor: StephenW » Thu Aug 08, 2013 12:35 pm

I use the Cylinder Head shop in Hasting.
He repaired a broken fin, skimmed, new valve guides and machine cut in new exhaust and flow valves. Gas flowed head and vapour blasted head.
Could not locate the repaired fin joint and the rest of the work was first class. £700 including shipping both ways.
Top man is the owner Len.
Would recomend and use again.

He all so works on Jaguar and other classic sports cars.

That's good to know 'cos my parents live in Hastings, which is about a
3 - 3 1/2 hrs drive from where I live, so I could take my cylinder head to Len's
shop and visit me folks at the same time :D
That is unless I find a cheaper alternative like Debben's?

Mine was ported about 15 years ago by a reputable company with a flow bench, can`t remember the cost, but probably about £250.
The last time it was apart I asked Ray at Debbens if he could improve it, he said there was loads more he could do, and so he did, even porting the inlet rubbers too. And 9.79 seconds later I`d say it was worth it!
For me someone who knows these engines inside out and knows what to remove and why, is way better than a generic porting shop. Debbens weren`t silly money either (can`t remember the exact amount, but it was reasonable).

+1. Hey Steve.....Len completely rebuilt & did a lot of work to the head on my Kat 1000, wasn't a quick turnaround but it looked like a quality job to me. Wasn't cheap though about 1k from memory......I could've just shoved an efe motor in it for a lot less.....not for me though.

Got mine done by Kipkawa, he also flowed the rubber manifolds. The cost with 8 plug head mod and setting up the cams etc cost over. £800. But well worth it 120 bhp at the wheel
