Coils heating up ?

#1 PostAuthor: Vendetta761 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 11:17 am

sorry all, i have tried searching the forum but i cannot find the thread I read recently about someone having trouble with their coils.
My new acquisition from ebay ,VZ-ST, is not starting so I have swapped over carbs from Olive and now the kill swithc which was broken /damaged .
Still no start so thought about swapping the coils from Olive and whilst i was doing this i forgot to turn the ignition off on VZ, 10 mins later, came back to the bike and the coils were hot hot HOT and the battery drained.....

Any ideas ?

you should not leave the ignition in the on position for more than a couple of minutes as to your cost it will overheat the coils + damage the internal windings. bike should be running or turn of the kill switch if you need the ignition on for long periods

Fill up battery and recharge. Coils should survive a bit of over heat. If you have contact points they will need attention.

Very droll :| Only good if you have full control over that action  The inner workings tend to corrode & short over time :!:
