Marzocchi rear shocks or similar ?

#1 PostAuthor: Vendetta761 » Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:24 pm

Hello again, I am looking for a set of Marzocchi rear shocks for a Z 1000 ST, do not know if ones for a Mk 2 would fit just as well, the ones I had on there are shot, they were about 340- 350mm eye to eye . I think the model I am after are STRADAs ?
I am after these as they are what i always had on the Z, I cannot afford Ohlins etc and like the look of Marzocchis, is there anything else that looks similar? :??

On the Italian Ebay site, there was a guy selling NOS Strada's a short while back. They are big bucks though ( about 350 quid from memory).

the other option is you will need to buy a knackered set or two and refurb them - that's what I ended up doing, although I bought maybe 8 shocks to end up with two good sets. They can be in a fair old state and be a pig to strip down, especially the alloy reservoir caps.

The rebuild kits are available from Marzocchi UK and the bodies and springs can be powder coated, so you end up with what appears to be new shocks ( well I suppose they are to all intents) . That way is not cheap either. I reckon my shocks probably stand me at 200 quid a pair (plus a LOT of labour) going that route.
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)

Thanks Charlie, looks like i should start collecting as my reservoir caps are seized so I have my eye on 2 different ones on ebay , lets hope I do not start a bidding war with other club members!

They wont be seized, they're just VERY stubborn!!

I tapped the caps for M8 & used a 30 inch breaker bar as a lever, they came off but the bolts bent!!

I must have been lucky mine came of no problem. just put 2 drill bits in the wholes & used a big bar. would have been better with the right tool. The caps on the body were a b&*"£$d though. Someone had destroyed the nut in the past. kits are cheap. i sprayed mine they look OK

I've been looking at a set on e-bay, I won't bid any more if you're after them.
What we got here, is failure to comunicate.

not those horrible looking blue things Gary ... ??

Keep an eye on this guy for brand new units...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&i ... &_from=R40

He only has fork type listed at the moment, but he does list Kawasaki/Suzuki types as well sometimes (unless he has sold em all out)

Incredibly - this guy has several new Strada shock bodies listed too....

http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=ma ... a&_sacat=0

so if you damage a body stripping it (very easily done), or just want some new ones - these could be what you need

I dunno Gary. I was joking really mate. They look garish but could well be OK under the blue paint.

They certainly cant be any worse than what Steve and I have worked with in the past I wouldn't think. We revived those in the end

All a bit out of my price range on a limited budget, I will see what I can get off ebay, Gary and I have agreed to bid on separate items, there are some old ducati ones that may do for me,I need 3 sets in the end for the 3 STs but am hoping my originals can get repaired by Ralph with perhaps some spares from one of the ebay buys ( if all goes well)
:
Otherwise may go for a set of NJBs
