Brent,
No its not that one mate. The one I got from you is in good order.
Its the one that was fitted in my green zed.

I am getting a weird grinding/whizzing noise when moving off in first gear.which disappears once I am rolling.

The springs looked okay when building the motor & as the engine is run in now, it is getting a bit more of right handful.

I was planning on having it on the dyno to get the carbs spot on (with probably larger main jets)

There is no other symptoms, e.g. clutch slip or drag.

I suppose I am hoping that it is something that wont require splitting the cases

You can sometimes get a bit of noise & juddering if pulling away slow & careful. Give it a bit of welly and it gets less :!:

Engine strip to get a clutch basket out :??

If you (or previous owner) have mistakenly filled with synthetic oil- especially ester based- will get that buzzing/whirling/grinding noise on launch, grabs releases grabs, pay to whip out clutch pack (incase still traces synthetic oil hanging around) and clean up with kero, soaked in mineral oil for few hours refit your away.
Recently a local RE5 had same prob, he spoke too previous owner, bingo used synthetic oil.

Thanks guys,
I will try the clutch plates out first & have a look at the basket when I am in there.

Not at the mo though as the weather is too nice

Will post once I have a look

From memory, I don't think those radial spring are exposed when you remove the plates. I have however, seen the springs wearing thru the plate. Hopefully it's not that! They do go for years with a broken radial spring or two.

My bad

You can take the basket off the spline but you can't take it out of the casing without splitting the cases

Oops
