Anyone Familiar With Rickman Kawasakis?

#1 PostAuthor: Rickmanrider » Wed May 15, 2013 6:10 pm

As a newbie to the forum, I bought a Rickman Zed Thou project minus wheels, and have been trying to fit std Kawa mag wheels, as definitely fitted to the Rickman Z1000 I used to have. LOTS of machining/head scratching fun have ensued...

First question, is there any dimensional difference between Z650 and Z1000 18" back wheels? Im told Ive got a Z650 not Z1000 rear wheel off the eBay of Plenty. They look pretty similar. Im wondering if Im making work for myself if there are differences, trying to get the alignments right

ALso, it would seem that for whatever reason, back in the day Rickman cast up a dished alloy disc-carrier of their own devising for std Kawa mag-wheels as well as a Rickman branded Lockheed caliper carrier. Being reunited with my old Rickman, I can see that there are alloy Rickman parts on the back. Im wondering if that was key to wheel & chain alignment. Id dearly love to buy either/both if any kind soul has one surplus to requirements!

At the moment Im trying to take a speedo drive off my Kawa Z mag front wheel, whatever that is from, which definitely has provision for a speedo-drive as std, but Ive have had to machine the speedo-drive down as narrow as I dare, to get it to fit between the (Betor) forks and Rickman yokes and still keep the wheel central, yet the bike as I got it, came with a speedo cable to the (missing) back wheel. What Kawa wheel had a rear-wheel speedo drive?

ANy help appreciated from them what knows
Simon

Welcome to the site, I used to have a Rickman H**** and that had the betor forks and the speedo came off the back wheel too.
Might of been a Rickman mod.
Big Fluff might be able to help and there are others on the site with Rickmans

Hi Simon welcome , i have a Rickman Kawasaki z1000, and the cb750 engined Rickman, both have the rear wheel speedo drive, and both have kawasaki wheels, cant help you with spare parts but might be able to measure some of my parts
i think rickman made a rear speedo drive plate for the kawasaki wheel which used the donor bikes speedo gear

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Smiths drive for the rear,

Veglia for the front, only problem with Veglia is that the cable exits at the front of the fork.

can't remember what ratios though, you,d have to work it out

I'm pretty sure all rear speedo drives are H**** cb750, regardless of engine fitment.
