battery charging

#1 PostAuthor: bunnysZ » Tue Apr 16, 2013 5:45 pm

is it ok to charge a battery while it is still connected on the bike.
i have a zrx with a flat batt, which has a dataool alarm on it , if disconnected what will it do to the alarm/bike ,
as i think you have to put in a code somewhere to allow you to disarm it which I don't have .

disarm the alarm. then turn on the ignition + then press the circle button on the fob until you hear a beep then turn of the ignition. remove the alarm fuse the alarm will beep every 30 seconds while it is in service mode as it has a 9v back up battery if you can see the alarm control unit just put some tape over the lid to smother the beeping. when you reconnect your battery just press the circle button to bring it out of service mode

If you have a flat battery and dont want to risk or cant disarm your alarm, what they do in garages if the radio has had its code misplaced is to use the fag lighter as a temporary 12volt input while they change the battery,ie they use it as an input to the cars electrics, you could jury rig up a separate 12 volt input with another 12volt battery and jump it in parallel with your battery,so you dont lose power to the bike,Cheers Paul J

The Datatool alarms are notoroiusly shit.

I was told to remove mine on my ZRX a couple of years ago.... I didn't, then it just went tits up at 5.30am on my way to the TT. Game over as the only way to sort it was to bin it.
When they do go tits up, they also take your battery with it.!

Please... Bin it... now !

If anyone wants to know how to by-pass the alarm (datatool 3 ) i did mine on me z1000 (2003) and 1200 zrx last year. The one on my z1000 went tits up so i decided to take the one off my zrx aswell rather than get stranded at the side of the road . Insurance wont be bothered as its only needed on new (ish) bikes.
Takes about 30 mins to do it. Did a mates on his blackbird at the side of the road last year aswell.

Just bought a GPZ500S thats got a Datatool 3 on it,first thing I want to do is remove it. The only thing an alarm is good for is flattening the battery, I put more faith in my Almax chain and Squire padlock.

How about this for coincidence.

Went to go out on my 'Blade yesterday for the FIRST TIME.
Wouldn't start!!
I now have problems with the Datatool NOT disarming and cutting out ignition system.
Googled Datatool S3 yesterday, loads and loads of people have problems with these and most RIP THEM OUT.

I have spoken to CN this morning, NO EXTRA PREMIUM if I take it off.

I'll speak to datatool tomorrow when they reopen. If it is not a quick fix, then the chances are it will be getting removed!!!!
