KZ1000 Project Help Please

#1 PostAuthor: jtreg » Mon Aug 27, 2007 11:11 am

Hi I want to get my KZ1000 ex Police bike sorted, can anyone offer advice please, I am after a manual as well... Anyone live in London area that can mentor me? I will need to replace rings and get the head overhauled as the two middle pots show plugs as oily and it pre-ignites (pinks) a lot. Any help will be taken gratefully.

I dont think I can manage the head work so I was hoping to hear of a good company that can offer an exchange head. Is it worth doing a ligh rebore as well, fitting larger pistons?

cheers

james

Hi James, what year is your police bike??
Kawasaki produce workshop manual supplements but you'll still need the full workshop manual for the base model.
Try ebay america as that's where i got mine from, only sold it a few weeks as well.
Speak to Rick Brett as he's in the states several times a year and may be able to source manuals,parts,etc.07970 120000.
Regarding your engine re-build,re-bore,head work, etc,SEP at Kegworth 01509 673295 do top quality work at sensible prices.
Z-POWER,01942 262864 for all your parts at discounted prices.

The engine is the later and better  1000J type with the hy-vo chain,CV carbs, etc.
The base manual for the Z1000J,1981-1983, also covers the GPz1100B models and are often for sale on ebay. They are often listed as KZ1000/KZ1100 manuals as that what it says on the front cover.

Thanks, Jack

I ordered a Clymer Manual which includes details on the police bike. I noticed my bike has the two middle spark plugs as a bit oily and she drinks 2 pints every 400 ish miles plus pre-igniting a fair bit under load with 91 Octane fuel. Most of the time I could only get 91 Octane in the US. I think its time for a head refurb plus possibly new rings - we shall see. When I get the head off this will reveal more to me.

I will be in touch with SEP but are there any similar firms a bit further south?

cheers

Hi James, you may well find the genuine Kawasaki manuals better than the Clymer.
As for spark plugs, don't bother with NGK but get a set of DENSO instead :D
If you want to borrow a copy of the Kawasaki manual,I've got a spare one if you need it.Just email me your address and I'll get it in the post.
