I am having a bit of a nightmare trying to get this bike registered. The local DVLA office rejected the dating letter from the Z1OC president as the Z1OC is not on the DVLA list. So I contacted the Vintage Japanese Mortorcycle Club and the guy there is very reluctant to issue a dating letter as "there's so little of the original bike left". He seems to think I am trying to pass this of as a faithful restoration. He said he had never seen such a "radical" modification. He even complained that the colour was wrong. "You've used Z1 style not Z900".

If I can't get a dating letter from the VJMC I am at a loss to know what to try next. Another club or organisation? Single Vehicle Approval? What a bummer....

When I registred my import I just gave them th us title and they seemed happy with that. If you have the us title may be worth trying,it was a couple of years ago when i di mine. You won't get the tile back but it,s worthless anyway.

London,
I also had issues while trying get a dating letter for my 1075 project.

Kawasaki UK would not issue a dating letter as I did not have the original engine fitted. :??

What I did was to ask a policewoman who had come to my house on another matter.

I explained my problem and told her that it would save me at least £50 if I could get the original number.

Within 2 hours she had checked out on the PNC and phoned me back with the original frame number :D :D

The best bit was that the original colour was also Green.:D
My 1075 has modern forks, swingarm etc (nothing compared to yours though - Cracking looking bike)

I did try the link that Z1bman has above, The guy did seem genuine enough as I talked to him on the phone, Nothing ventured mate ??

Best of luck

Stu

very nice bike so vjmc is reluctant to give you a dating letter i do not know why he has said this ,you have not change the engine also the frame is a z900 frame , if the engine and frame are z900, this makes the bike a z900 does not matter what the rest of the bike looks like or that is not the right colour for the year

London Z1
If the engine and frame numbers are original KMUK will issue a dating letter after checking records in Japan and for the fee of £54.00.I've just got 2 issued for my Z1s.
They will confirm in the letter the date of assembly too.
Speak to Alan Lunn at KMUK on 01628 856600.
Regards
Steve

Thanks for the helpful replies. The bike no longer has the original crankcases but I'll contact Kawasaki and see if they can help.

KMUK - Will not entertain you with a dating letter if the Frame & engine number do not match their original Japanese records.

I spent a lengthy tel. con with Alan & I was not getting anywhere.

Sorry to be so negative.

I am now the proud owner of dating letter from a DVLA approved source. If all goes to plan I will be at the local office with Mot, dating letter, insurance and customs form on Friday morning. Hopefully that should be enough but you never know with civil servants. If it all works I'll tell how I did it.....
