Slow progress to date but an early question. Just before removing rear wheel I noticed that it was possible to turn the wheel and tyre about a quarter of an inch without having any effect i.e. movement on the sproccket and chain. Was thinking the cush drive rubbers may be perished ? Visually look ok. Any thoughts appreciated

Yep,check the little rubber blocks inside cushdrive while its apart.
While youre in there Id also check/repack the wheel bearings with grease while youre at it,If theres any doubt Id go ahead and replace them

Finally managed to get a bit of progress . Found a few things along the way. The cush drive as previously mentioned, very notchy head bearings, swinging arm badly rusted, frame chaffed from cables in a number of places , the airbox to carb rubbers were solidified and the throttle cables were literally hanging by a thread and would have undoubtedly failed on me .
All wheel bearings removed and will be replaced as has been suggested by zmax.
Have really enjoyed it so far and learned loads. The front sprocket was as tight as a very tight thing but eventuallly came with a 5ft scaffy bar on the end of a 2 ft power bar !! The rear wheel has some damage from ham fisted tyre fitting in the past. Does anyone know if re chroming will sort this type of damage ? Will try to get a photo taken.
Next steps are to get the frame re painted along with the other parts which are black gloss and start to acquire genuine gaskets for the engine.Having found what I have so far that needs replacement I am going to ensure the engine is inspected at which point I will take the opportunity to get it cleaned up professionally.
Thanks for the help so far
