I didn't use the XJR muddy at all.
I cut out the ally plate the same width as the forks and guestimated the length needed (it could always be trimmed later) the ends were then radiused to match the width.
I used black marker grid lines as a guide.
Beating along the length pushed the metal sideways to curve around the tread towards the rim and beating across the guard helps create the fore and aft radius to match the tyre circumference.
That is a very simplified explanation as the curvature in all directions is a combination of both actions.
If you look at the pic you may see i don't go right up to the edge.
There is an unbeaten area around 15mm wide that is unstretched and this part trys to remain in the original shape/size which helps pull the sides round.
I have no training , everything i do is self taught and this mudguard was formed using only a ball pein hammer and 14lb lump hammer head in the vice as an anvil, no bag of sand or english wheel.
Time for you to get the hammers out
