G z900a4 Project

#1 PostAuthor: G » Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:40 pm

Hi all, novice restorer here starting first project This is my starting point .I wanted something original that I could ride through the summer whilst making my mind up as to what to do. Got hold of it early summer and have enjoyed it but now time to tackle a few things .

Image

The right hand side exhausts have minor damage to both. The pictured one is a dent the other shows evidence of a poor repair. They are original so I am keen to retain them but get them sorted. Any advice on suitably skilled people would be appreciated.

The paint set has faded over the years and needs a refresh. Again evidence of a poor repair pictured.

Image

In addition the clocks have also faded ,there are signs of ham fisted tyre fitters having been at work and there is a small crack on the right hand side panel.
The clocks are showing 13k and it runs sweet as nut
The objective with the bike was always to try and return it to as near new as possible whilst keeping it original. That being said I intend to do a double disc conversion .Have been gathering a few bits together and also tapping in to some knowledgeable folk on here .Thanks to Bill ( Newman) and Dave (Z1a) so Im ready to go ! Not going to put myself under any time constraints as I have another bike to ride
Got a couple of days off at the end of this week so that will be my start point. With the level of experience within this community I dont think that many people will learn anything but hopefully it adds some interest to the board in some way. Thanks for reading all advice gratefully received :D

Nice bike,if you are twin discing her look for a pair of 5mm rotors the 7mm ones make the front end quite heavy, though lots of them are used,
Al Marshall on here will sort the clocks for you.
Few skilled painters on here who can sort the paint.
be real carefull on your exhausts ,you can end up paying more to try and get them repaired, better to sell them on flea bay and get some replacements,
my mate Paul Benton paulstrees on here may be able to help.

if you are missing the bits, outage relay, airbox baffle, idicator bleeper etc put wanted on here.lots of em are missing these

The single biggest easy mod to do on these bikes is to change the headstock bearing for roller type, easy and quick makes a big diff together with decent rubber.

I have had my a4 few years now, best of the bunch i reckon. just my two penurth....Good luck !!

"Bill, This is all your fault :D"

Gordon - you sound like my wife...

and you definately have the right discs and associated kit (so far as the brakes are concerned)...

Lovely looking bike, just ride it for a few more years else it might end-up as a garage queen like mine :D An issue I'm reminded of frequently. :)
