Torque Arm Length

#1 PostAuthor: Ginger Bear » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:54 pm

My Toast Rack Project has a JMC swinger fitted, I am led to believe it was originally from a GS1000. With a couple of spacers it's gone in fine, the only thing is, it's slightly longer than the original & using the standard Z1000 torque arm stands the caliper upright, causing the banjo bolt to foul the rear shock.

I have since acquired a GS1000 torque arm, but it's the same length.

Standard Z1000A2 torque arm is 340mm between centres, my question is, can anyone tell me if the Z1000LTD, Z1000H, MKII etc are any longer than what I've got?

Plan B will be to buy some rose joints & hex bar & make my own, it's just that won't really fit my 'period' brief.

I should have mentioned I bought an arm for a GS1000 & it's the same length.
I have had a length of 3/4" HE30 Bar delivered, just waiting for the rose joints to arrive & I'll make me own, then take a trip to Mikey's for that added bling.

Thanks for all the input. :up

Ive actually got one of those stock calipers laying on the bench 1800miles from here back in nebraska thats one of many future products on list of things to make.
We are going to carve it out of a solid billet, but it will be made to hang on bottem side of swingarm instead of top .
It will have all the mounting points reversed to allow it to be mounted that way and will have bleeder valve relocated to facilitate bleeding brakes easily.
I plan on making it so all the stock pistons/seals and brake pads can be used to make servicing much easier.
My biggest question is would people prefer it to be full sized like that full sized 78a2 caliper or would they prefer the smaller caliper like the 79-80 1000b series bikes run? :D
10-72 (build date)z1/2-74 z1s/2-75 z1s/77 1428 turbo/77 1170/78 1170/74 z1 1385 turbo nitrous project/80 1000ltd 1327 z1 clone.........
That ol kaw was fast on the draw
Outgunned suzukis and outrunned the law
