sticking clutch.

Anyone got an idea why my clutch sticks when left overnight.. I have to put it in gear and rock it back/forward with lever pulled in and free it off before i can start engine and engage first, then its fine until left overnight again.

Is the clutch lever easily operated or heavy :?:
I'd whip the clutch cover (r/h) off and inspect plates, as if a few years old the fibre plates could have started to disintigrate :?
Failing that, remove l/h cover and take clutch push rod out & give a good clean & check its not bent :shock:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

lever feels ok, only thing i have noticed is it sometimes seems to be a bit grabby when setting of, could be pushrod is sticking. but i dont think its this that is causing it to stick over night, will check plates etc over weekend,

FloydsZ1, I will nearly bet it's the plates gummed up. I found a quick-cure was to pour about 1/4 litre of oil-change cleaner. It fixed it within ten minutes. I can't remember the name of the product, however, it worked well. (I have kept the container somewhere, so I can find the manufacture if required!)

I was in the circumstances that I was about to pull the motor down in the next week or so. The 'plus' was, when I eventually pulled the motor down every thing was like new. I can't recomment using for a long period, however, if it was followed by an oil-change soon after, it's a great solution.

Hi Garn1,
I think you might be right about the plates being gummed up..Its a z1a ive just bought, none of my others have done this but it has been stood for a few months, iv'e changed the oil last weekend but it still does it though i'm hopeing after a good run it will be ok, but ill try washing it out with oil change cleaner first before i strip it, its no problem putting some more new oil in it.
I was in australia in febuary this year, i was part of the british team competing at the transpacific trophy races at the classic meeting at phillip island. Not sure if we are coming back next year but if we do it would be nice to meet up and have a run out somewhere., cheers,

Hi Phil.
I wasn't riding, i retired a few years ago, i was incharge of the fuel.There was about 55 of us in the team. we took ,i think 26 bikes, mainly p&m or harris kawasaki's (air cooled), couple of tz750's/350's and a kawasaki 500 tripple. 13 riders qualify from each team, GB, AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND. Iv'e just looked at the web site and it looks like its been hijacked, Ill try and sort some piccys out, i was going to do a story for the club mag but ive not had time yet. :( the aussys had some nice bikes, iv'e never seen Z1r's go so bloody fast.(20k spent on engines) web site is trans-pacifictrophy.com but its not working at the moment.
