I hope everybody gets a nice quiet Xmas and have as much time as possible working wit their Z,s.... I will.

Going slow but here is some pics of the progress.

Image

I have painted the engine and done the final rinse and cleaning (in the shower before she comes home)

Image

All ready to put together

Image

Dremel is a nice tool to fix the cylinder and top fins

Image

everything is in there

Image

Dont forget the sleve O-rings!

Image

I have rebuilt the clutch basket with new springs and rivets (no more rattling)

Image

Ready to go in the frame tomorrow, and then put the rest on

Remember to allwayes put the markings on the piston rings upwards.. even if the inner upper edge on the second ring is notched, and not like it says in the shop manual ..lower outer edge on the second ring is notched
I have once tried to put the notched side down, and it is not recommended
(unless you have genuine rings)

Image

Image

Image

Using the old pistons, they look like new, changing piston pins and circlips
Have honed the cylinders

Image
Only genuine parts !!

Over to one of my favourite things while resto.. the gauges and stuff

Image

putting this together is a great feeling.. the gauges is the originals !

Image

Looking good after resto

Image

Painting the controls and covers (on the livingroom table during dinner)

Image

Image

Image

Final result

Image

I also like to rebuild the aftermarked turn signals to make them as much like the originals as possible. The Stanley lenses is still delivered by Kawasaki and I just change the inside of the houses and use the original lamp holders.
You only need a 5.5mm drill and a 6mm tap.

Image

Image

Take out the reflector and drill up one of the holes

Image

Put in the original lamp holder and change the lens to one from Stanley

Image

And it looks like the NOS part. (dont forget the chrome bolt !) :D

Cheers :beer

Morten
Good to see you changed the springs in the clutch basket which is a relatively inexpensive jobs but often overlooked by many a restorer.
Did you get them from GEZ on this site.
Good to see you have a genuine key fob,you can tell the genuine item from the repro as the crimp has two little notches cut in it

Steve

Hi Steve.

I agree, many do not change the springs and have to split a new built engine after just a few miles because of noise  much easier to do it before.
Should alwayes be done when full resto a bike.
The springs was bought from Sweden years ago. Regrettaly he is not making them anymore. They are really good quality and perfect fitting.

Regarding key fob you are totally right !! it's genuine
you have good eyes for details

Morton
Who carried out the paintwork or is it new?
The route of orange pinstripe lining where it comes along and over the top of the tank is correct which many paint sprayers fail to get right.
