Thanks Man!

It's all down to careful use of anti scuff paste in the important little places :!:

The Foo Fighters mood and lyrics about these times making you feel alive again (and more like your teenage self) seemed to sum up what getting the old zeds out on a sunny day does for me (probably all of us).

Will be a nice memento when the bikes have moved on and I need to try and explain it all to the grandkids (hopefully).

Cheers Ladz,

If you liked it please circulate to your mates and other bike forums.

I am on a mission to spread Z650 love all over the internet this winter

I reckon the model is severely under appreciated as a 70's classic.

I was talking to Martin from KMUK and said that I thought that the 650 engine is actualy a far better engine than the 903 and he agreed. Its smoother and the gearbox on mine is the best of any bike I have ever ridden in 30 years. It also handles better than a 900 or H2.
The 650 will never have the style or charisma of the bigger fours or even the triples for me but its still a great bike as long as you are prepared to " ring it out " if you want to go fast !!!
I paid £600 for mine off Ebay plus another £600 tarting it up about 5 years ago so it doesnt owe me anything now.
Will get it on the road and put some miles on it next spring.

Ok Man

I will hold you to that.

Don't forget you are always welcome at the Zedrider HQ for calendars, tea and biccies

Roll on the spring.

I had a lovely comment on the film from an American 650 owner - who was going to watch it over the winter to get him going on his rebuild.

Cheers Guyz,

Keith - I have to say that after not having ridden one from 1978 to 2009 the riding experience did not disappoint. Would agree with Steve that they are a little revvy and leave you fishing for a 6th gear cos they pull so well!!

But this is down to the factory gearing - Kawa were marketing them as sprinters in the mould of the H1, and the low gearing gave them 750 beating acceleration and great standing quarter times.

For real world everyday use I reckon a 40 tooth rear sprocket would probably be plenty. Has anyone tried less than the stock 43 teeth on a standard motor :?:

Guy - Would be great to see an action video of your newly built 650 mate.... or even a static one like these -

http://youtu.be/HLIN9kcWoWw or this.....

http://youtu.be/C9SRqMpBxzo

I know Bongo has done a good static film cos I saw it. Not sure if it has been on here though :?:

I did it with Baz who restores them, my 650 film was the return favour.

Some of the locations used are the same.

Yep thats it cheers

Cheers Ladz,

That's interesting about the KH500 rear sprocket Paul. Was it a straight swap onto the carrier - and did the chain length need altering :?:

Anyone know how many teeth they had as standard :?:

I double checked mine and it is 42 standard.

Thanks to everyone who has watched the film so far. I am hoping that 500 people will have seen it before the end of 2012.

Well I can hope can't I

The KH500 shares a lot of parts with the Z650. The forks and wheels are a straight swap and the sprocket carrier is the same. The engines are quite different
Just had a look at mine and the Z650 has 42 tooth and KH500 has 45 tooth rear sprockets. Not sure about gearbox sprockets.
