front footrest rubber removal.

#1 PostAuthor: Pasc » Thu Aug 30, 2012 3:07 pm

How easy is it to remove the rubbers from the front footrest and any tips to make the job easier ?
Also, was the peg that the rubber fits on to zinc plated originally ?

Satin black on the early Z.
Are you reffting the rubbers afterwards? I had to cut mine to remove them recently but found NOS ones were still available from Z Power.
The footpeg shaft had four small triangle shaped protrusions to prevent the rubbers coming off

Rezinc them with the rubbers in place? Mikey did this on some of his and they looked fine - he even commented that the acids cleaned up the rubber nicely.

Agree with Ruffle, I would add, ensure they are washed well as acid during plating sometimes ingresses under the rubber and works its way out at a later date! ...I'm sure Micky would take care of this.

Erm... Mikey did do zincing for half the Z1oc but was having some issues with his platers IIRC. Not sure if he's back in the game yet.

PM him and ask?

i had some bit zinc plated a while ago, i left the rubber on without thinking, brake lines, gear linkage etc. when they can back they looked like new even the writing on the brake hole was visable again. I asked the guy and he said they do it all the time as the process doe not effect the rubber at all.
