when powder coating a frame , what is the best way to plug up all the threads before you send it off

Check to see if the powdercoater will do it. The one I use in York is great, he even makes sure the frame number is still visible and has always made sure all the captive nuts, bearing housings etc remain clear. They usually just screw bolts in the holes and I think they then cut around the edge with a razor blade/stanley knife to make sure that nothing gets disturbed when the bolt is removed

On the bearing faces I use blanking plates ( any bit of scrap ally or steel secured with some threaded 8mm bar.

All the other threads I normally stick an old bolt in not up tight but just to protect the threads, then its all clean when you remove them.

My local lot use tapered rubber bungs everywhere.
They have all the sizes and occassionally they leave a few in so i now have some for shot blasting too.

I always slip a piece of tube over the rear brake bearing on the frame, retained it by a washer and an acorn nut. It hard to scrape off that bearing, when fitting the rear brake pedal.

i never bother, honestly, nitromorse softens powder coat no bother, then just wipe it off or use plastic/soft scraper, then on all the threads just run a tap through, on the brake pivot, ask them to mask off and not to blast so the surface is not damaged, same with stem on bottom yolk, bye for now, tricky

Tricky, is Nitromorse a trade name? Is there a common name for the stuff? What is it and where do you get it?
Some paint removers do work slowly with a lot of grunt! I had a heap of trouble getting a [bad job] powder coating off a head-lamp shell once!

If you take it to someone who knows what they are doing they will plug everything up.
I send mine to griffs motorcycle services done 3 for me over last couple years not a single problem with any of them.
They done my ltd frame which was my latest project which after blasting was in a shocking state
but they done all the repairs to it and after it was powder coated you were hard pushed to see it
and they just done my Z650 frame etc fantastic finish
cant recommend them enough.
