#1 PostAuthor: Al » Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:35 pm

You got yanked off at Brighton Speed Trials, Tossed off at 120 at Eelmoor, bent youre shaft at Santa Pod, won the Manzano speed trophy plus one other and now youve whipped out a tiddler at Avon Park.

Congratulation Andy Z1R on your day of sub ten second passes including a 9.873 which is a universe away from youre previous best 10.05

Looks like this;-

Guess he's too emotional to speak.

Its 1327 cc Orient Express big block, 418 cams, 36mm RS flatslides, standard gearbox which has been back cut. Clutch is standard and i have removed the lockup and oil cooler a fair time ago for reasons i forget.
It has an airshifter, dyna 2000, green coils, Tarozzi linkage, Michelin power one rear tyre, Madjimix swingarm extended by about 5 inches, 530 chain, Vance and Hines Sidewinder with no baffle. Short ally bellmouths, and last i fiddled it was a 140 main jet. 4 plug head as standard, maybe some larger valves, probably a fair bit of porting and flow work too.

No Turbo or water, no supercharger, and no nitrous, no methanol or acetone, no nitro.

There are two reasons why it goes this well; First is, Ray and Steve Debben have messed about with it and they set it up on their dyno.
Second reason is Andy is a natural at drag racing. I guess working with Brian Johnston and the several times Funny bike world champeeen, something must have rubbed off on him. (dirty boy).

There is endess scope for improvements, 8 plugs, Unitrak head, crank work, rods, lightening, balancing, forced induction, exotic fuels, the list is never ending.
The chassis is more or less standard and i reckon it could shed about another 20 pounds without too much problem
Currently its knocking of the door of the 9.5 bike class which would piss quite a few people off :D

The most peculiar thing in all this for me is that with all the work that has gone into setting it up it manages to haul its massive bulk to the line using only 4 gears. No matter what the elapsed time is the terminal velocity is always without fail 136 or 137 MPH.

Hope this is of some interest.

It certainly is, cheers for that :up

I can really appreciate how much time and effort has gone into it as well as the money side of it :resp
Any 'normally aspirated' bike running sub 10's is going some and bet its already pissed many 'modern' bikes off :D

ETs and Terminals always 136/137mph - No don't get that either, would of thought running a 9.8 would of been high 140's? - Traction maybe? Lock up struts instead of shockers?......

Keep us posted on any other runs - not only is it a great looking bike it goes some as well - top one!!

Congratulations Andy

You were conspicuous by your absence at North Weald on the 15th (which was handy as it meant I didn’t lose for once)

Well done.

Thanks all, sorry i haven`t replied until now as my password had to be reset for some reason. Anyway, thanks agan for all the replies, yes i`m well chuffed and about bloody time!
Massive thanks go to Al for all his hard work over the last few years in getting the bike to where it`s at now, it`s been painful at times (literally-bouncing down the track at 110mph is no fun), but finally got the desired result. Also thanks to Buzzard for helping build the 1327cc engine in the first place, from a second hand box of bits with lots of pieces missing took a lot of patience, and without him it would still be an 1100 doing high 10 secs. And thanks to Mark Birch for helping get the engine back in and fired up, after it being sat on a pallet in my garage for 6 plus months, cheers mate. Ditto Pete for helping get the thing out and stripped down after the crank shat itself at Santa Pod!
And finally big thanks to Ray (and Steve) Debben, for the couple of rebuilds and fine tuning (including porting the head, dyno set up, plus lots more). Their knowledge and skill should never be taken for granted, if Ray ever retires then it would be a huge loss, use him while you can.
Oh and if you are still reading and not bored to death yet, the cams are APE 435, and shifting at around 10,000rpm in every gear, topping out at around 10,500 in 4th at an average 136mph, so some potential with gearing faffage to be had.
Oh and Piggy, when are you getting out on your old shitter? Be good to see you again old boy, i can always sub you a fiver if funds are tight!

Thanks for the complement Andy, I didn't think I did that much. Anyway as Zorded pointed out plenty of scope for mods and improvement, so much so I'll have to get my arse in gear and finish my bikes so you got someone to race against. Buzzard.
Every man should have a shed (for bikes obviously..)

I thought it was all sorted and would be out this year? What still needs doing on it? It would be good to see it and a few others out there.
Buzzard get those bikes of yours sorted and let`s try and get ourselves a Z1 drag meet next year at Shakey, maybe try and get the triples guys involved with a Zeds vs Triples day?
