Hi all, does anyone know if a 4 bolt A4 hub, speedo drive and spindle will fit in earlier Z1 forks and calipers? Or how to make it fit
Thanks in advance,
Si

A4 hub and spindle in Z1 forks?

Si, I think there is a little trouble just changing over the A4 wheel, speedo etc to a Z1 front forks. Usually, this change is accompanied with the a4 front forks as well.
It's probably not an insurmountable problem..
I took these measurements this morning~
Overall length of Z1 spindle = 225mm, allowance to fit in fork leg 30mm each side.
Overall length of A4 spindle = 235mm, allowance to fit forks legs 35 mm each side.
So, you can see they are both the same size, between the fork legs. ..(approx)
Also, there is a difference in the small distance piece that fits on the spindle Z1 has a 30 mm piece and A4 has a 25 mm distance piece.
You can see that we have about 5 mm poking out of the forks either side.
It would look a bit unfinished!
You could turn a bit off the end of the nuts of the A4!
I don't think it's an easy solution. There is a better way to get twin discs!

Thanks for your help Garn
The trouble I have is I have Z1 forks with brand new calipers and pads, and stainless rim and spokes on an A4 hub, so id like to use both. It seemed to bolt in fine, the pads just bite on the disc a little closer to the centre and the spindle was a bit wide, the discs also were in the centre of the calipers so I though all good!. When spinning the wheel it seemed fine but when the wheel was turned to the right I got a clonking noise but for the life of me can't see or feel what it is?! When straight or to the left - nothing :S I was wondering if something needed to be made to change spacing?

Si, you notice I said they fit approx.
There is a difference in the frk-leg caps meaning, when the A4 wheel is fitted to the Z1 forks, it could be a shade loose about 2mm (max) each side. However you could have a bit of adjustment with the A4 spindle nuts.
The "clonk" could be ~
The speedo not engaged in slot, or speedo drive slightly bent internally.
You may have jammed the wheel speedo drive out of slot.
Ensure that the lower retaining bolt(s) of the calipers is not touching the disc.
ensure both caps are secure before spinning wheel.
The speedo cable could be different end drives (remove cable and try).
Could be loose spoke or balance weight loose.
The A4 disk is thiner about 1.5 mm than the original Z1. Check that brake lining isn't slightly dragging or loose.
Love SS rims!.

Thanks mate, after all the faffing I've decided to put the Z1 front wheel in as I'm going to Germany on it in about 15 hours and I want it to be right, just no SS rims and spikes to match the back!
thanks again for your help
