Paintwork - recommends?
Hi lads.
And after a good painter - just 1 want 1 colour and to paint 1 tank and side panels. Tank and panels are NOS so nothing dodgy lurking below.
I'm in London so preferably SE of the nation but will post for exceptional work.
Cheers.

Thanks for the recommendation z1bman

With regards to the z900 A4 set I took a match from Bill Newmans which he and I knew was not the original Diamond Green, but preferred this different colour. The second set I did for Paul knew it was this colour

Paintwork will ALWAYS be a big subject.
I will be wanting a few areas of my Capri 280 painted real soon.
The thing is.....who do I trust.
If the guy makes an arse of my motor, the lesson learned is "I'll not be going back there again". But my car will STILL be needing done to get it right.

It'll take a bit of effort to get that Ford "orange peel" effect for the crapi

To Simon/flying Tiger,
I've got n.o.s Z900 A4 tank and tail piece for ref'. Diamond green.
Also got original Z1a brown / orange Z1A tank,for ref' .
I've added the Z1a because lots get painted with a white/white stripe?
They should be off white due to the FACT the last coats of lacquer had a hint of the orange added.
Fully paid up members ,(
),might remember the trouble Hutchy and Paul Scanlon went to , to get it right ....printed in Club Mag' only
TTFN Keef.

Good point - remember, the "painter" can only use the paint/colour you advise him of

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Interesting thread - not least because I fail to see how anyone can indentify the correct shade of Diamond Green. Even if the NOS colour on Keiths tank and tail piece is copied, it will only be faithful to the colour on that tank. The point being that back in the day there were no paint codes for the colours and the QC for paint was "variable" to say the least, resulting in a range of shades in any particular colour.
Once a colour is within that range, it comes down to personal preference about which shade and consequently the instruction to the painter.

Very difficult to colour match a Kawasaki Paint colour, as the colour of the tank will depend on the colour of the base coat.
Some of the Blue`s and Green`s - had a red base coat from memory.

At the recent Donington show Jerry recounted that if a customer used to come in the dealership needing a new side-panel they had a stack of panels they'd take out to the bike to get the closest match.
Hutchy has told me he will not try and match a side-panel for the same reason - they're all different.

Chris - that was exactly my experience too. I worked at a Kawasaki dealership in the 70s and we did exactly the same thing for other painted parts as well. One of my jobs there was to break insurance write offs and from the resultant pile of painted parts it was rare to see two the same shade...
