Superb Bill,

Best of luck with the weather if you are taking that minter over to Germany mate.

Would be lovely to see a video of her in action if that can be arranged during the trip.

Don't forget to re-fit your lucky 70's valve caps before you go

Nice vid thanks Bill

Look forward to seeing some location shots when she is on the road trip.

Take her for a few spins first though - bound to be some settling down and checking of torques/ tensions before you do the big one.

Thanks to all who have commented and supported this thread over the last 5 months.

A further update - after a succesful start up I put it in for a MOT on Saturday and it went through without too much bother, although I did get an advisory about the headlight glass...

Whilst at Chris Self Motorcycles, I got Chris to adjust and balance the carbs on his digital machine and it is nicely set up now. Starts on the button hot and cold. It was popping a bit but I put this down to exhaust gaskets and after nipping up the exhaust nuts a little more it is pretty well cured.

Taxed it on Monday and had a couple of short rides in town on Monday/Tuesday. Got out yesterday and put 110 miles on the clock. Ran well all morning and came back with everything in tact. I am booked onto the St Elizabeth Hospice Charity rideout on Sunday so I will put some pictures in Out and About.

Time to thank all those involved - I titled this thread "Club Restoration" bcause so many Members were directly involved. Here is the roll call:

Martin(ProwlerZ1) - Engine rebuild
Mikey - Polishing and plating
Simon(Flying Tiger) - Paintset and frame
Tim(Pixiedog) - Welding
Steve(Ginger Bear) - Frame tubes
Paul(Paul McCelenery) - Cold start tube
Geoff(Z1parR) - Cold start tube
Brown(Zed Man) - Switches
Al Marshall - Clocks
Paul(Paul M) - Casings transport
Duane(DDZ900) - Spare cases
Rob(RobW) - Sockets,books,tools and knowhow
Rick(Stempy) - Centre stand bolts
Keith(Keefleaf) - Headlight ear
Ian(Padders) - Z1OC stickers
Jim(Crofty) - Horn mounting rubber
Mark(Pertonpc) - Valve caps
Chris(Tlc) - Clutch perch, rectifier and master cylinder seal

I think I have got everybody and my thanks to all involved. I could not have done this project with out the help of each and everyone- my apologies if I have missed anyone.

To everybody else, thanks for your interest, advice and support. When I am out and about, I hope to see some of you in Germany or other events later in the year.

Hiya Bill,

Can't believe I got a name check on the same page as Prowler who did the engine but thanks.

As a good luck gesture please help yourself to a Z900 A4 complete 6 page sales brochure download from 1976.

It will make a nice souvenir to go with all your bike history file - or you can print off bits to astound the Germans with.

It's on here for you matey  just click on "Download File"

Bill, I expect you're aware of this, but it would be worth re-torquing the head now you've put a few miles on her.

Thanks for the name check by the way!

wot GB says
...and the cam cover and sump bolts if you have an inch pounds torque wrench that goes low enough.

I found that cam cover and sump gaskets seem to give a little after the first few weeks if its getting used and mine all needed a little nip up to get them back to the correct setting.

Don't know if this is cos I used Dave Marsden's tip of lightly smearing grease on faces and gasket before fitting or what.
