Running great [Except]

#1 PostAuthor: zman » Wed Jun 20, 2012 10:25 am

The good news. The bike ticks over very well. And she rides great :)

But after rebuild she been running a bit rich[very dark brown] but did not bother me as she rides so well. But ive noticed she pops abit when you are of the throttle and the plugs are getting a bit sooty.Apart from that runs like a dream but like to sort it.
This is what i have checked.Carbs are z1000 26mm
Not sure if jets are correct.got a gunson but cant see much change when adjusting. The adjustment is a mixture screw not air but is the same difference yes:?:

got 11volts at the coil.would 1volt drop make the difference :?:
keep thoses wheels turning

"Popping" can be caused by air leak in exhaust system, should coke up / seal with use.

A gunson will be best for checking the mixture at idle - and the air screw will adjust that, at that engine speed,if the passages are clear and the float heights OK.
A gunson's not so good for checking mix at full throttle or half throttle - Dyno might be better , or an old fashioned plug chop

Popping could be leaking rubber manifolds - check seating & for cracks, etc
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
