I'm not too sure ill be liked around here............

#1 PostAuthor: kiwi kdx » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:10 am

hey all, i have lived on dirt bikes for most of my life (real ones not 4 strokes!) , with a few roadbikes throwen in the mix there RGV250, RG500 powered RGV.... a couple of shit H****s and a recentlly stolen R6 streetfighter.

so its time for a new build.......... and the Air cooled bug has bitten me!!!!!

as i said in the title " I'm not too sure ill be liked round here"

YES I AM GOING TO CHOP UP A ZED......but not a good one!, im starting with a Z1000st frame and building it from there so hopefully thats not too bad?

i want to start with a 1979 Z1000st frame and bring it up to date.
im using the ST frame as im sure you all know its a lot wider in the ass
due to being shaft drive, and i need the room to fit an R1 swinger and 6" rear wheel with a 190 profile tyre

i alreday have:

-05 ZX636 forks
-06 GIXXER1000 4pot radials
-twin 320mm Aprilia rotors
-Ducati sport Classic spoked wheels
-07 R1 underbraced swinger
-R1 shock an dlinkage
and i need:

i want to do my reasearch before i go and buy the wrong shit....... so ill have heaps of annoying questions for you all!

i have really badlly photoshoped this together with GPZ1100 bodywork,
im looking forward to feedback/HATE MAIL so let me know what u all think.....

Welcome to the site kiwi. There's room for everyone so long as you have an interest in the big Zeds at least. You will get some ribbing of course but its mostly good natured.

Your project looks exciting. Start a thread in the projects section so we can see the progress. Worth checking out some of the other builds for ideas or inspiration. I love those wheels btw.

Hi Kiwi.

A fitting end to a ST or a new lease of life for it depending on your view!

Will be interesting to watch how it goes though.

A quick look through the 'projects' section shows this whole Streetfighter thing is very en-vogue at the mo' - it almost seems no one restores old Zeds to standard any more.

The problem for me with all these Streetfighter type bikes is that no matter how well done they are they can just end up looking like yet another ex-crashed sports bike who's owner can't afford the new plastics. Also, and perhaps even worse is it means dressing up in camouflage trousers and a Simpson Bandit then walking around your local bike meet trying to look 'ard.. :??

Oh, and Welcome.. :)

Welcome Kiwi, Photoshopped pic of the bike looks really good, it's just the tailpiece that doesn't do it for me. :( As you've already said, you may use the original (I presume you mean 'J'/GPz1100). I'd like to see that with a shortened seat!

Looking forward to seeing the real thing.

The wheels look terrific, and Welcome to the site by the way.

Thanks guys!
Unfortunately I can't start the project for about 6 months, when I have A garage, so for now it's just collecting parts and doing the small bits
Matching headstream bearings, wheel spacers etc...
But then it will be full steam ahead.

You need to be sure the spokes will clear the calipers at the front.
