seat

#1 PostAuthor: nealblath » Fri Jun 29, 2007 3:28 pm

I am wanting to either renew my existing z1 900 seat buying both foam and a seat cover ( I have renewed plenty of motocross seat covers) or buy a new replica seat from a supplier.

I can find plenty of seats available but they are all without the strap (I want to have one fitted to mine like in the photo at the top of the page). I know z-power sell the straps seperately, are they easy to attach? or should I buy a seat with one already fitted?

Thanks

Neal

Seat strap is easy to fix if you have the right seat pan......simply screws on. If not you have to drill a couple of holes and use the nut and bolt that comes with the seat straps.
BTW....don't buy a PMC strap! they're crap. I bought one of these and instead of the nice rivet to hold the strap to the clip, they use a nasty nut and bolt which will chew a hole in your seat. Not sure what Z-power over there sell but the Doremi one is much better (at least it has the rivet)
Begging your pardon sir, but you did say that you'd like .................a green one?

What would the price difference be between the PMC and Doremi straps?
Would it be yet more proof that the idiom, "you get what you pay for" is true?

Yeah, water under the bridge...but don't let that stop you from complaining about the difference in quality between a $20 and a $69.95 item eh?

I have two seat pans but both US seats. If I bought seat foam and a new seat cover and a strap, would I need to drill two holes in the underside of the seat pan for the strap to fit to or is the US seat pan entirely different than the UK model pan?

The seat bases with straps have two holes with a 6mm threaded section inserted for strength. Two 6mm nuts could be welded in position on either side, if seat is in a condition/ state to be welded.

I do not know which models had the seat strap, I thought they all had provision for the strap. A case of "fitted for, but not with" in some cases.

On the topic .. What are the straps for? I use the strap to hold my gloves or a map while I'm off the bike. I wouldn't think it is any use to the pillion. Perhaps it is just for aesthetics.

Well I thought it was over with....
I wasn't "complaining" at all. It was simply a note to an interested party stating that one is not worth buying and to steer clear of it, regardless of the price.
And now that you bring it up.....it seems that the price difference from Japan at least, is bugger all if not the same.........yes?

NO Sorf NOT the same. You KNOW that.
By the way Sorf, YOU are the reason I no longer bother to supply people with parts from Japan....except those that want to pay me too much on eBay. You were able to purchase the EXACT items that YOU asked for at HALF the price than you would have had to pay at Zpower. You need to re-check the prices you paid me if you think they were the same. I made a whopping $20 for my trouble. For that I had to reply to loads of emails from you, check links that you sent me for prices for you, drive across town to pick everything up and post it to tassie. Then you complain about the item that YOU ordered

Let's get it right gph,
I sent you an order for Doremi parts with Doremi part numbers and Doremi part prices from Doremi's website. And from memory the strap was 2,100 Yen by Doremi's website which as what I ordered was the bloody amount included in the deal for the strap, so if the PMC item is a cheaper offering, WHY did you send it???
YOU arrived at, and sent me an amount for you to purchase said parts and post to Tassie. I made a mistake with the decal set and Doremi wrongly listed the price of actual set I wanted according to you.....and I left the order as it stood and accepted my mistake. As the instrument rings were on backorder YOU decided to post them later when they arrived....not me. You made the decision to ignore and or not check with me before buying and sending an order with part Doremi and part PMC gear. How long does it take to reply to an email anyway, personally, I don't find it a problem when I have to do it. And don't blame me for not wishing to help others out, that's purely your decision, and if one deal worked out to be more trouble than you would have liked, then look at the way you do business.
As said before I'm over it......if you want to take it further please email direct.
Begging your pardon sir, but you did say that you'd like .................a green one?

I sent you the EXACT parts you ordered. How could I send anything else?
Remember YOU asked me to sell to you, I never requested ANY dealing with you. In fact, I told you I did't want to fill orders for your mates! I only tried to help you with the keys that you were pestering people for info on because you couldn't get them anywhere. Then you wanted more stuff, Why? because it was half sho price!
BTW,I sent you the instrument rings because you had paid me for them, anything wrong with that?.
I will email you direct to stop the highjack of this thread.

It's pretty easy to fit the strap the original only has a hole drilled and a nut tacked on the inside to allow it to be screwed on. All you need to do is check the measurement of exactly where on the pan to drill the hole.
