Z1 900 electronic tacho

Anyone any ideas who sells the aftermarket electronic tacho for the z1 900 and a rough price.

Looks like repairing the head where the original tacho drive gear smashed up is a no goer. Tried Debbens and they said they would not undertake that type of work, so it looks like blanking off the tacho drive and fitting an electronic unit.

It seems a bit crap to me for the tacho drive gear to just sit in a hole in the head casing, there is no wonder they smash up! I would have thought the japs would have made the shaft sit in a bearing off some kind!

You won't find an electronic tacho which will just bolt in, you'll have to be a bit creative with mounting brackets and nothing will match the looks of the original. All the aftermarket custom shops can order in mini tachos from Zodiac, Custom Chrome etc - there's a couple in the Hi Level catalogue, part no. 310274 (60mm white face) and 310284 (48mm white face, or 310294 black face). Any high street bike shop with a Hi Level account can order them in and should let you see them in the catalogue first. Expect to pay around ?45 plus VAT.
A better bet might be to scour a good breakers for a secondhand tacho head you can cannibalise to fit. Anything off a Jap four should work.
And then of course there's the racing/performance stuff, see what Debbens or Big CC can offer.

sounds a bit more complicated than I thought!

probabaly the best bet would be for me to try and buy another cylinder head with no damage and perhaps a front cam?

From memory you will have to do a little filing or grinding to your speedo tacho bracket to make the PMC speedo fit neatly. The speedo comes with instruction detailing the required work. I don't know if it's the same case with the tacho though. At any rate it's not a big deal and can be done with hand tools. Just not a straight bolt on. Thought this info may help :)
