#1 PostAuthor: nealblath » Fri May 04, 2012 12:57 pm

on the frame sticker on the headstock, it says 12 73 but the frame number is Z1F 319**

is it a 73 or a 74?

According to Z-power
72/73 starts with 00001.
74 starts with number 20001.
75 starts 47500.
So yours appears to be 74 with 319**.
Unless you've made a typo and that should be 0319* then that would be late 72 - very early 73.
One of my engines is 0796* and that is feb 73.

ok thanks Rob, it has a silver engine and everything else points to Z1A but I always thought these were made in 1974?

Think you should ignore the sticker and go by the frame and engine no's.
Looks like mid 74-ish is correct.
Logbook should state year of manufacture unless it's an import and it's been declared wrong which is common.

Your sticker is right, this is the manufacture date only.
Has nothing to do with the model designation as such, other than telling you the date it was made.
Model designation can be sourced from the Engine Number.
Clear as mud?

According to Z-power
72/73 starts with 00001.
74 starts with number 20001.
75 starts 47500.

In a way it would be less confusing if they had

Z1 starts with 00001.
Z1-A starts with number 20001.
Z1-B starts 47500.

Agree with Z903....
Further to his comments....
Z1 ~ 72 to mid 73 (nominally called 73's)
Z1A ~ mid 73 to mid 74ed (nominally called 74's)
Z1B ~ mid 74 to mid 75 (nominally called 75's)
Z900-A4 ~ mid 65 to mid 76 (nominally called 76's).

Hence, Z1F- 319XX sticker is correct. A Z1A manufactured at 12th month - '73 .
