Had a bad time today whilst rebuilding the front end of my bike. I fitted a replacement headlight ear (for one that came off the bike - because it was bent), only to find that the headlight was angled to the nearside - instead of aligning straight ahead. After thinking the fork legs were twisted I took everything apart and rebuilt it again - with the same result. I checked everything with a laser and found all was straight and square on the forks.
Then I discovered that the ears were different...the original has a dimension of 123mm from the back of the tube to the front edge of the arm whilst the replacement has a dimension of 132mm
Which one is right? I now have to try and find a good one of the right length...
