On the subject of the frame, I went over to Simon's(Flying Tiger) last week, to pick up the frame. Outstanding quality - I am really pleased with the bracing - the weld quality is very good and the brace tubes are very discreet.







The overall finish is as good as any that I have seen - the dents in the down tubes are repaired








Swing arm has a great depth of shine




Neat repair to the chain guard bracket




Frame is ready for the engine







Next job is to re install the engine on Saturday...

Arranged for RobW and my daughters boyfriend to come over on Saturday afternoon to get the engine in. I had spent all morning looking for the swing arm lock nut - and still haven't found it Got the rest of the fittings though

First job was to wrap the frame - thin insulation is perfect for this job




Then gently lower the frame over the engine - it went on a darn sight easier than it came off - the frame must have been really wrung...



Rob couldn't wait to get his hands on the spanners



Beginning to look better already



The quality of Mikeys work now comes into sharp focus



Next on are the stainless centre stand bolts turned ty Stempy (Rick). These are fantastic quality with the touches that make for a top job - all the edges burred and bevelled; no sharps here - lovely to work with and a perfect fit.



Complete with new spring



No fooling around with pennies and coins to get it on - just get someone big to put it on for you



Got the footrest studs polished and back in, together with the NOS grease nipple on the swing arm





Lots of shiney new sets, washers and flats have turned up this week - got a mixture of polished stainless and chrome - the stainless for the underside and exposed locations and the chrome for the "topside"









Was disappionted with the stainless R clips though - they were not polished



Good job I ordered some chrome too...



But spot the error....







I forgot to order any spring washers on order now and will be here tomorrow.

Next jobmetal work, brackets and wiring loom( I am dreading the wiring)

With the engine in the frame I can now get the rest of the metal bracketry into place








Put everything back in with new rubbers and new stainless polished bolts - really pleased with the results. Battery box, electrics plate and clamp have been power coated for durability



Tool box is from the club



Despite blinding the bolt holes, I have still had to clean the threads...



New screw set to engine has also been fitted



Crash bars are back on



Along with horn, brake light switch and shocks







Went to Simon's the other night to pick up the rest of my painted parts. Simon(Flying Tiger) and his Dad, Keith, have picked up a straight/all original 'H' - which will be really nice when restored - I have seen their work and it is excellent



As usual the paint was perfect









Refreshed the disc today



Next job - fit the electrics, front sprocket, chain and swing arm

Nice work Bill, I find it much more refreshing to see a rebuild that uses improved materials rather than being hung up on originality.
If you don't find your swing arm nut give me a shout as I have a rechromed one here that you can have.

Thanks Steven - I very much appreciate your comment, along with the other comments that have been made. You have exactly understood my philosophy on this rebuild as I have deliberately set about improving the ride/handling, the electrics(more of that next week)and the durability of the bike without sacrificing its character. Hopefully I will succeed.

No mate - its me mixing zinc plating with chroming - 'cos your plating is so shiney
