i have a january 1973 z1, the cover by the gear lever has the small gear numbers on it. they are not relieved into the cover but stand proud. is this correct or should they be missing altogether?

Al. I believe, notwithstanding any differences in the European & others, that there should be no markings on that sprocket cover case of the Z1 '73 model. Pretty sure the early Z1A's didn't have any markings either. The Z1B had markings as did the Z900-A4. Not sure which came first, the embossed (raised) or the embossed indented.

My 1974 Z1A has the gear markings on it. They are raised not embossed. Frame # is 38007. I don't know if that puts it as an early or late Z1A, or if that makes a difference in this instance.
