Brass Cleaning 'Potion' ?

Hi all,

I currently have a set of carbs stripped to ultrasonically clean & rebuild, along with some new Keyster kits.

Question is, how can I clean up the brass parts (Drain bungs, float tang's etc) with minimal effort?

Should I just soak 'em in vinegar, cola or something stronger?

I just put some vinegar in the water and turn the heat up , let the machine do the work then

Regular coke works on brass

At the risk of sounding controversial...... brasso or solvol autosol or is any form of elbow grease not allowed

Dilute sulphuric acid/pickel will do the job, generally a 5% a bit stronger won't harm, battery acid diluted at 4 to 1 will do the job, or brick cleaner will even do the job, dip until clean then rinse with d/i water then dry off.

I have some battery acid left over from buying a new battery. Should this be diluted 4 parts water to 1 acid, or the other way round?

...and more than likely 4 water - 1 aceeeed

Steve 4 parts water 1 part acid, add the acid to water it will generate a little heat but only a little as battery acid is only 28%, when finished it will be fine to send it down the sewer as there will be no noxious chemistry to contaminate the sewerage systems.
P.S you can also use it after to descale your kettle
