Rebuilding Z1000 front brake callipers - to grease or not to

I'm rebuilding the front callipers on my Z1000. Should I apply a thin film of grease to the two slider bolts that go through the brake and ride along the mounting bracket - if so what type please?

Yeah, hi-melting point grease :wink: You can get special stuff for calipers, but don't know what its called, I'm afraid :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Coppaslip works a treat on brake sliders , but not on discs !

That's the one organised by Classic Bike magazine, a few of us met up last year.
Keep a look out in the "meetings and events" section a little nearer the time.
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

RickmanCRR, I don't think the grease referred to above would be suitable for the slider bolts on the caliper. I think that "Kawasaki' grease is more an hydraulic oil compatable grease used in the assembly of seals & pistons. I think I would go for a high-melting-point grease compatable with the small o-rings on the bolts.

Ah - so much debate over this little topic. I am inclined to go the coppaslip route for the pins as this is basically a metal to metal contact with the only rubber in sight being the 4 dust covers.

As for the piston seal - I'd rather fit a new one without grease, but hey - each to his own.

Anyone going to be at the Ace on 22 July for the classic bike meet?

The consensus seems to be to grease the pins with some anti seize grease. I did this and then started to have some problems with my brakes.

One of the pins on my J has a plastic sleeve. It seems that some compounds may make this swell, causing the caliper body to retract too far back once brakes released. After months on wondering why my brakes were spongy replacing the plastic sleeves on the pins restored optimum function. I have refrained from using any grease at all, just making sure they are clean
