MOT/DVLA

#1 PostAuthor: dave cullen » Mon Mar 26, 2012 7:41 pm

guys,

I've got a bit of a problem in that for my latest runabout, the new style MOT does not have a reg no on it (marked as "not shown";

having rung the mot station (midlands), apparently you dont need a number plate to get an mot then the frame number on MOT matches log book EXCEPT, it starts with a C and not PC!

So, i dont reckon any GPO employee will accept MOT without a reg no, and on going to DVLA local office today for advice, they say i can come back with all docs and change the VIN to the one on MOT cert otherwise its re mot it;

Has anyone any advice, for example should i send off the log book for new owner details and when i get it back, apply on line foRrtax as i do have a valid mot?

any advice appreciated

dave

if the frame no on the MOT does not match the one on the frame of the bike it is the responsibility of the MOT station to replace the certificate. is the reg number on the log book. also the no on the frame must be the same printed on the log book.

Has this been registered to you ie log book all in your name? as when you tax a bike they just scan your log book/reminder they do not need your mot/insurance. similar to doing it on line hope that makes sense :??

reg no is on log book, i just havent sent it away yet to change name as i wanted to sort tax out first, it just gets weirder as i cannot find a frame number anywhere on the bloody bike, so i dont know where tester got it from and he wasnt exactly helpful; ! seller away on hols now so i can get any light shed on matter at minute; frustrating

the frame number must be visible before the tester can carry out the MOT. has the frame been powder coated. what make + model is the bike

now no tittering, its a h***a M***D, the very first bike i ever owned, (not the actual one) and guess what, i bought it from a guy in dudley, robins nest road??

so,

the frame hasnt been touched, its all original, ie scabby. and surely if it was a sticker or plate, it would be obvious where it had been?

mystery, i must be missing something very obvious

Talk to VOSA.

I had this problem where the MOT station had written the frame No down wrong when they MOT'd a Z1 import. The MOAT station washed their hands of it but I rang VOSA and the lady on the phone was brilliant.

Sent in proof and the wrong MOT - 3 days later got a correct one back.

Amazingly a useful goverment agency.

I'm impressed with your last statement Chris.

Government agency or "Dept of" in the title usually means "shower of lazy tossers".

thanks for help with this, turns out bike can be mot'd without a reg plate, for purpose of registration, so presumably, this bike was without a log book at one time;

because it didnt have a reg on mot cert, it wont show on VOSA database, and so GPO woulnt tax it as showing mot expired;

rang VOSA, VERY HELPFUL, told to go back to GPO, explain, ask them to accept it at face value, and if need be they could ring VOSA themselves who would confirm MOT in place;

GPO then accepted it without ringing, so job done, it still doesnt help fact that the twonk of a tester missed a digit from the frame number on cert, but my local friendly MOT centre say they will fix that if i take the bike up, so this may be useful to anyone in a similar pickle

cheers

dave
