Z900 A4 restoration

#1 PostAuthor: pignog » Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:28 am

Nearly there now:

Before:

After a few weeks fiddling (my wife's terminology) in the garage it now looks like:

Image

I have stripped it and had the frame, stands, brackets etc powder coated, replaced all engine casing phillips screws with allen bolts, I,ve kept all the No 7 bolts and re-used I didn't have one seized bolt it looks as though it's never been touched in the last 36 years! If it was from UK it would have been butchered I'm sure.
I bought a Z1000 tank and tail as a stop gap until I can afford a respray or something :o
The more observant may notice that the rear wheel isn't fixed, I'm waited chain & sprockets, but wanted to see and share what it looks like.
It is a Z900 A4, but had a partial conversion to a Ltd in Colorado; tank, rear 16" wheel, exhausts & rear disc. I did buy a Marshall 4-1, but prefered the 4-2 pipes.

I tried to get it running last night bit petrol p*ssed out of float bowels, so I've had to take them off again (a b*stard job).

Anyway my aim is to get running so I can MOT and then register.

Nice one mate.

I like the paint scheme.

Far away across the field,
The tolling of the iron bell,
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Not being picky, just interested in details.
A4 frame had the inbuilt cross piece ( "A" shape) on the front gusett I thought? Where as the Z1 had the open arch.
