Eureka! No more smoke. :D Its seems that 1 ring being upside down can really have a truely dramatic effect, frankly I'm amazed that the inlet tract could collect so much oil due to this- you live and learn.
(Incidentally, Pressure test of head proved that all was ship shape)

John, with those photo's, I really thought it was something more serious.

To make you feel better and a fact that lead me to suggest your problem, was: I had a mate that, unknowingly, put all of the rings in the wrong way around. He started her up and went for a test run around the block. You could see where he had been, because of the massive blue smoke trail that he left behind, he ran into the same clouded haze, when he arrived from the other direction. he used approximately a pint of oil in that small run. Evidently, the rings act like an oil pump when reversed. He complained to the Kawasaki dealer that they had sold a faulty set of rings. He went pretty quietly after being advised of his mistake. [True Story].

Jeez John, I feel sorry for you with all these engine problems. Once sorted though you'll have a very nice bike for those sunny rides out.
