Thats a big old exhaust box  Bet she's a blast to ride around your neck of the woods

Back to my old heap - and after a quick spin on it around my works yard to warm it up then I changed the oil & filter.

Image

Goes surprisingly well considering how long its been standing at the back of a garage!!!!!

Next I had a look to see about cleaning the carb out...

Top view...

Image

...errrrm, I think its in there - somewhere.... ??????? Think you need to remove the rear wheel, air box, then you can get at it :??

But before I delve too deep..... I set about ripping the seat & arse end off..

Image

........ and tried to re-lived my BLUE PETER days.....

Image

Gonna sort out a single seat unit then set the grinder to the bastard... let the battle commence
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Been playing in the workshop this week - and started on the front end......

Image

The forks are in pretty good condition - decent chrome, no threads damaged, just the seals leaking a bit

So I got hold of a seal kit and some cheapo gaiters - only £7 off eBay !

The first fork stripped down OK, but the damper bolt (bottom of fork) on the last fork was a real PITA  I spent a whole lunchtime getting the bolt out - the dampers are round on the inside and I tried the old "whittled-down" broom handle first - No luck.....

So in the end I ground a sharp end on some 16mm studding and whacked that in to hold it whilst the "rattle" gun did its thing... H**** must have had an excess of Loctite to use up at the end of the 80's !!!!!

Image

Anyhow, its all done now - belt & braces job as its got the dust seals and the gaiters fitted

I also stripped & cleaned the front calliper (its only got 1  ) and fitted new pads........ Just need to clean up the wheel & yokes then I'll start on the back end :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Whatever you do don't say that its a mates and his wife can't ever know or I'm fixing it for a mate.
The other half will see right through you.
I have seen female officers reduce men to tears in an interview room with just a stare.

Well, Mrs P now knows all about this bike.... :rollpin ...so spent the last weekend decorating the spare room

So..... bike in one piece again - only doing a general tidy-up, so trying to keep it cheap & easy :!:

The rear cush drive rubbers were a bit slack... so I did my old trick of using an old bicycle inner tube to "freshen" it up a bit.... just cut 5-off and slipped them over the hub arms.

Image

Image

I painted the hub & drum plate & swingarm & shox... roughly rubbed the spokes down a bit & it looks a lot better now....

Image

...and thats a new chain & sprocket set too......!!!!

Image

I painted the forks & engine casings silver & have now started chopping the seat up

Direction Adrian - errrm, NONE whatsoever :??

So heres the front end all finished & better than it was !

Image

Image

The worse bit about these bikes (apart from the manufacturer) is the tank :!:

So I tried a different one for size...

Image

Image

The exhaust is a bit shot - but I have some old Z900 down pipes from a NETA system which I have taken a hacksaw to  A bit is phaffing and I think I can make some decent pipes - if Dave (ExhaustCraft) can be persuaded to assist me in making a collector box and link pipe

Image

...and tried them up for size...
