So, got my replacement KERKER end cap from the States.... and fitted it last night :P

Image

Been out for the first "proper" ride today (work & back) and got 6 months tax :!:

Bike ran pretty good - until a couple of miles from work - and a sudden power loss (whilst overtaking a bleedin' taxi) :?? Pulled over and the bike was still idling - so was just a broken throttle cable

Image

The bike does take a bit or warming up and has a "glitch" at slight throttle opening - and now I know why.....

Image

You can just see the cracks at an angle at the top fixing area.....!!!!!

Usual problem with K&N's - over stressed manifold rubbers - followed by splits  Gotta get a new set & make a "carb support" bracket next.

But that aside, she rides superb & I'm well pleased

I don't plan to do anything else to it - for the time being - I actually like it as it is - proper "Old Skool"

So, following on from discovering cracked carb rubbers I decided to take the carbs off today and get ready for the new ones (ordered from Z-Power yesterday)....... BUT...alas, all did not go to plan :??

Image

PANTS

Time to get the tools out......

Image

Got the 90 deg drill thing for a fiver at Stafford last year :P

After 10 mins ready to re-tap to clean threads up...

Image

...... then fit some good spare rubbers I found in me spares box....

Image

.... then out for a half hour test ride..... Sorted, much better

When the new rubber turn up I'll sort out a support bracket.

Yes & No - Interesting story tho'........ The photo in my last post shows a new set of RAM AIR sponge type filters & it didn't run too good with them on :?? Perhaps they're a bit more restrictive?????

The filters it came with are cone style K&N's copies..... They were for larger carbs and had cut bits of rubber inserted to pack them out. So I decided to try some other that fit properly........

Image

The RAM AIR filters were bad so I took them off and had a spin up the road with none - still shite

Then I got my spare round "real" K&N's and tried it - SUCCESS :P

Image

Now it runs 98% good  I have yet to strip & check the carbs so don't know how they're set up ?????? No doubt it would probably have run OK with the cone K&N's, but they're a bit scruffy. Surprising how much difference the filters make :!:

Had an ongoing issue with the ignition & "blown fuses" the last week or so

Tried swapping condensors - NO GOOD !

Fitted a spare set of 3.0 Ohm Dyna Coils - NO GOOD !

Decided to ditch the points & fit a Dyna S I had in me spares box - NO GOOD !

Tried some other coils - NO GOOD !

Did the "Wired by George" mod - NO GOOD !

Finally tracked it down to the kill switch earthing out

I also fitted a standard MKII ignition set up with the Dyna coils - WORKING :P
