Differences between Z1R engine and Z900/1000?

#1 PostAuthor: martinz1000r » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:51 pm

I started looking at the parts I need to put my Z900 back together other the weekend and thought I would reference the engine number against the model list on Z Power. Turns out I have a Z1R engine in a Z900 frame. Before I going spending money is there any substantial differences between the 2 engines? Are the crank cases exactly the same in terms of mounting points?

No significant differences beyond the black coloured finish of the Z1R engine. The engine mounting points are identical.

The 1980 Z1R engine is a Mk II engine - 16t center section on the crank, 32t cam sprockets and 124 link cam chain. The engine cases are beefed up as well.
73 Z1 (turbocharged), a 74 Z1A, and some h***a's and Suzuki's...
