Service Fuel Level
Going to try to set the service fuel levels on my Z1000 using the clear tube against the side of the float bowl method as per the Kawasaki manual.
As I can imagine this may involve removing the carbs many times to adjust the floats.
Anybody got any 'Pearls of wisdom / tips or tricks' as to the most effective way of getting the correct fuel level without removing & fitting the carbs too many times?

hi mate what i do is this, carbs off bike, loosen all float bowl screws, and bowl drain plugs, then take out two screws, one out of each bowl corner [diagonaly] the ones thats left in, gently nip up, dont forget to nip up bowl plugs also.
then i mount the carbs gently in a vice with some soft grips, and put a spirit level over the carbs with the carb tops removed, so i know they are level, then connect up a test tank, i use a brake hose clamp to controll the fuel flow, some proper test tanks have a fuel valve.
then i remove a bowl plug and use some scottoiler clear tubing and screw it into the float bowl then run it up the side of the carb body using a small rubber band to keep it upright,[there is a special kawasaki tool for this job i have two but they are both incomplete, they were going to be thrown away when i worked at kawasaki newcastle but i rescued them] once i have let fuel into the bowl and see where i have to go level wise, shut off fuel, take out two bowl screws, adjust float tang, bowl back on fit screws then re-check, i set the levels to what is reccomended in the manual, hope this helps, bye for now, tricky.

As above but use a couple of old carb to head rubbers screwed to a piece of plywood push your carbs into these,you can clamp the whole setup in a vice and use a spirit level to make sure they are level,,,Paul J oh and get the clear tube a green in line plastic couplers from your local aquatics the couplers screw right into the bottom of the bowls

...and you can measure the levels on the inner carbs by holding the pipe next to the outer ones - so long as it's clamped up level.
Another tip I learned from the great man was stick an in line fuel filter onto your remote tank cos you will be pouring the same bit of petrol through several times unless you are real lucky.
Agree with only using two bowl screws diagonally just nipped up whilst you are adjusting.
Once it's done I fit new bowl gaskets and leak test the lot on the bench before it gets emptied out ready for re-fitting.

Thanks guys for all of the useful advice - managed to get all the service fuel levels spot-on yesterday - this really is a great forum!
