Z900 Running rich?

#1 PostAuthor: Phil50 » Fri Jun 01, 2007 11:37 pm

Hi
I need some more advice please.

I have a dry blackening of plugs and the bike runs poorly and is incapable of travel more than very short distances.

My first target was plugs and the plug caps. All replaced. The carbs were the next item. An incompetent aquaintence damaged carb 1 beyond repair trying to get the jet needle out the wrong way and ripped a bit of casting!

I managed to obtain replacment carbs and today fitted them with the correct main jet 115 size for the Harris street legal pipe I have. I did no other work on the new carbs. No change stil blacks up on all cylinders.

The other carbs had main jet of 120 in them and I also now have size 117 to use. Tomorrrow I am checking the compression and thevacuum balance of the carbs. If this does not solve it I am at a loss.

Suggestions please
Phil

Hi Phil...

Have a look at this if nothing else works it may be of use.

this guy also recomendsthis on his site...

We jet our carbs for pods and aftermarket pipes. We use #120 main jets, #17.5 pilot jets and the jet needles 5DL31-3.

Hi phil

have you checked your float heights
make sure floats arn't twisted when you measure both sides of the carb
carbs off upside down gasket off 24mm from gasket face to the top of the float.
mine was running rich and this worked for me hope the helps

have you tried taking the standard baffle out you harris and running it up the road. do a plug chop (before the cops get there) i have found the standard baffle very restrictive on the harris. if it is any better cut the baffle guts out and just refit the end bung

Many thanks to all.
The help to the USA carb site was excellent. I have a new set of carbs which I rebuilt myself. It has not cured the problem at all. Back to the drawing board and the Dynomometer I think : )))))
thank you all
Phil
