Rear Shocks rebuild

#1 PostAuthor: gordon62 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:51 pm

Hi all,
I am in the process of restoring a GS1000, and I was wondering if it possible to completely erbuild the rear shocks, has anyone done this? the shocks are in reasonable condition, still firm, just the usual chrome pitting etc, so I was hoping maybe to strip them and get the parts rechromed and then rebuilt..I"m sure the spring and outer body parts are probably no prob, but what about the middle rod part, can this be done ok, it is fairly good as they only have very few pitts etc, any advice much appriciated...
Andy
here the shocks in question..

pretty sure these shocks are completely sealed. only thing you can remove is the spring + spring adjuster + the top shock mounting.

are these any good to you

Cheers Z1bman - but I think its more about "originality" than replacement. I'm running my GS with Marzzochi shox at present - Those cheap ones you put a link to are pretty sh*te to be honest - but thanx for taking the time to help

sorry for copyrights violation but I have some old photos from Z1 shock rebuild from this forum if I remember, as Z1bman says yours are most likely sealed units like on Z1
