hi all, on a serious note, changing an engine number is now a complete hassle at dvla.
i waited seven weeks to get me log book back, as the paper work for my bike had gone to department v.c 9, which is vehicle investigation.
i was only trying to put the origional engine number on the log book, as it was an american import years back, and as some will know they are/were registered on the frame number only.
i had to write a letter explaining why i was doing this, and because i had changed the color of the bike i had to supply pics of the bike also!
i asked about what to do if you replace the engine with another unit, and was told i would would have to 1, provide a reciept, or 2, provide a statement from the manufacturer, or 3 take it to dvla for an inspection at my own cost!!!

I had to do the same when i changed the cc of my triple special from 250 to 400.I needed a letter from an official source to confirm and check the change in cc and then an 8 week wait...then they said i owed them some more money before they would issue another tax disc as the bike was then in the next band up for road tax duty  ...another two weeks...so 10 weeks later i had a new v5 and tax disc...I haven't bothered with the colour change yet :!:

From my own experience, only change one thing at a time, otherwise the DVLA can't cope with it.
When I changed the engine number & capacity at the same time on my 1170R I had to get a letter written by 'someone in the trade' to say it was what it was. :no
