Kev ,she looks super mate ,ok i will say this to you cos i can see a failure mate.Number plate looks on the small side .I had a failure because of one and i know Mart (z1prowler )also had one for a spacing on his .So to make sure i'd get a big un for the mot .Then ......happy days ahead

zedsrus:"i don't know man ,i just got here myself !!"
Hi Kev,
Looking great now matey. Fingers crossed for your MOT (agree with ollie about reg. plate by the way - you could phone the tester with dimensions to save a wasted journey). Paintwork is a lovely shade of blue - is it original or who painted it for you??
Noticed your 4:1 pipes have somewhere for the centre stand to park under the bottom of the pipe. What make is that cos my 4:1 didn't have that.
Cheers from Mark

She looks great Kev. For insurance valuation I would suggest getting an 'agreed value' policy, most insurers do them. You will need proof such as photos, receipts and a valuation from the club (Jerry) to back it up. I would go for around £7500, others might suggest higher. As for true market value, well you know yourself that is a can of worms. As an indication, I sold my original blue unrestored Z1b earlier this year on ebay (after offering it to club members) which was quite similar to yours for just under £6K.

Paint is all original, complete with scratches
Pipe is a Wirges (I know! nobody else had heard of them either) it uses standard Kawasaki side & center stand rubbers.

I thought a value of £5500 would seem to be fair, if it had a 4/4 system then I would bump it up.
Roll on tomorrow..
So it passed the MoT, but I have a couple of small things to sort out, the master cylinder needs rebuilding, caliper dust seal, needs changing, and I need to line the tank, as it keeps going rusty, even after using rust cure!
So I am close to finishing, but as I don't intend to tax it until October, I have a little time left.

Well done Kev
good result mate.
I researched wirges pipes and apparently Bill Wirges is a small american supplier from the 70s - who had a bigger name for making 2 stroke expansion chambers.
Looks like that could be a rare pipe in this country, it's the only one I have seen that exits on the left and uses original stand rubbers - so a good find!!

Kev, just been looking at your rebuild pics.
IMPRESSIVE.
I can remember how chuffed you were when you bought it a few months ago.
You have inspired me to get the finger out of my fecking jacksey and get some of my stuff done.
Well done.

Today I have been doing the last few little jobs that seem to come up when you get near to the end, removed all the rusty exhaust clamp nuts, cleaned the threads, and replaced old nuts with new stainless ones. Adjusted the exhaust system so that the new centre stand fits.
Fitted new old stock oil pressure switch. fitted NOS plug lead numbers, Fitted new polished cam cover, gasket, and NOS chrome cover screws. Fitted new front metal brake pipe (thanks Gez)
Tank is away having some bad scratches touched in, as I am trying to save the original paint, and awaiting new top rubber brake pipe from US.
I am all but done now.
