Fuel Tap Problem

I have one of those vacuum activated fuel taps on my Z650 and its started spraying petrol out of that little hole in the side of the spacer that holds the diaphram.
It only does it when its running and doesn't leak otherwise.
Anyone got any ideas please?

most likely to be a badly seated or ruptured diaphram

You can get a fuel tap repair kit for those bikes that includes all the bits that could cause a leak. Not too expensive.

Thanks for the replies.
I have already fitted a repair kit, it was working fine, but tonight it started spraying petrol.
What we got here, is failure to comunicate.

was it working properly before you fitted the new repair kit

I don't think so, I didn't check it because it was in a state and I jus renewed it.

did you pass the diaphram through the grey coloured plastic spacer so you have a seal at both sides of the spacer

Yep, did that, it was working ok for a few weeks then Fri night it started pissing out.

I had the exact same problem a few years ago........


I cut down a milk carton and jammed it below the fuel tap.

When the carton was almost full, I stopped and poured the fuel back into the tank. Going to and from work only took a few minutes more.

I had the same on my z1100r after the tap leaked and put half a tank of fuel in the engine, I replaced the original tap with a pingel tap. Not a full repair to resolve the problem with the tap or carb float valves but a good solution !!!!

I might try that, but add some tubing and a pump too.

I read that a suzuki fuel tap will fit, so I've ordered one of those.
