Well as the first week passes, thing are moving on, I now have a set of chrome euro style shocks to replace the air shocks fitted. Also have the correct grips, to replace the Italian soft grip ones, fuel tank gasket, as the original has perished after 37 years, oh well nothing lasts any more

I also have a caliper rebuild kit, and this raises a question, was the original caliper finish gloss or satin?

I have also managed to find some genuine Kawasaki throttle cables, I know one is supposed to be NLA but if you know where to look, well you get the idea

So just the seat and seat catch to source now.....

So a week has passed, since I dragged the old nail home, but I have been doing a little when I can.
This week I have stripped the caliper for vapour blasting and repainting, fitted the new euro rear shocks, and had a good go at cleaning the exhaust system...

Week 3

#41 PostAuthor: uk kev » Sun Aug 28, 2011 10:59 am

Week 2

So I hit week two, and parts are coming in, so parts are being fitted.
Some of the original parts are now getting tough to find, so I have had to hit a few contacts across the USA, and as luck would have it, I am doing Ok.

So let's see where we are....

this is how she sits this morning, the brake caliper is away being refinished, and all the seals are here waiting to be fitted, I also have a replacement decal to go on.

Image

The carbs have now been cleaned and are in the post back to me, along with the fuel tap, I have cleaned out the fuel tank as best I can, and I am hoping that it won't need sealing, we will see what happens here later.

Image

New PMC seat from Z-Power, I have the strap to fit yet, and the seat catch assembly, although I do have the parts for both. I have also fitted the correct steering damper, and fuel tank cap seal.

Image

Right here's one for the rivet counters, New grips, to replace the Italian comfy ones that were fitted, as you can see these are correct NOS grips, and have Japan embossed in the end, copies don't. you could buy two full sets of copies for the price of one of these! and they are getting very hard to find, especially the throttle grip.

Image

I also managed to track down, both of the original throttle cables, one from over here in the UK, and one from the USA, the close cable has been listed as NLA for a long time now.

Image

Oh and I mentioned before that I had found the correct decal for my Bill Wirges exhaust system, well here it is ...

Image

That's it for today, I have a few things on order, Tyres, Bridgestone BT45's, a new sealed battery, fuel lines, and rear peg rubbers. I have a few bits here that need fitting too, oil pressure switch housing, and new switch wiring, with rubber cap. So getting close now to firing the thing up.

I managed to grab another couple of hours to work on the bike today, and fitted the seat catch/lock assembly, how fiddly is that job when you have large hands! Next it was to remove the sprocket cover, and clean out the years of old grease in that area, I have been trying out a new Citrus based degreaser, and I have to say it is fantastic, just spray it on with a household plant mister, and the grease and dirt just falls off, then just a wipe over with a cloth and it's done, it really is that quick and easy. Also it is paint safe.

I know you are all going to ask me the name now, but I left the bottle in my lock up  so you will have to wait. but I think it is called Quick Orange.
