Z1A CARBS WANTED
Anyone out there in Zedland got a set of 28m carbs for a Z1A .I thought I had a full set with the 17 mm bungs in the float bowls but 2,3 and 4 are for the earlier Z1 with only one reinforcing rib. Will buy or trade.
Thanks
Roger Hill

I am kind of between a rock and a hard place with the carbs .I got the bike in parts (well about 75% of the parts) It came with a full bank of Z900 26mil carbs and a set of 28mil Z1 type carbs in bits with a partly dissolved number one carb body. There was a spare number three carb with them .I got what I thought was the correct number one casting to build a set up but find that I have 2.3 and four that are single rib early carbs with 17 mil bungs in the float bowls .The other carbs have two ribs but also the choke pick up pipes are located nearer to the edge of the float bowl the bowls with bungs will not fit .I can get the bike up and running with the Z900 carbs but would like to fit the correct carbs at some point .I do not know at what point in the Z1A production the bikes were fitted with the Z1B type carbs with the smaller brass drain screws .My bike is a UK spec built Feb 1974.So If any one has a set of carbs or is after some single rib bodies please let me know.
Sorry if that has confused you all even more .I think it has confused me as well.

Z1a
The carbs in the picture are 1972.
There are many differant types of carbs.
The Z1A were first fitted with the large drain bolt, then half way through production they changed to the Z1B type.
The Z1A large drain carbs had a bolt on choke lever and not wielded.
I have had all the differant types of carbs and still have a small collection.

well 26mm carbs were only fitted to the later A4 models and Z1000 A1 etc
these carbs are far better than the ones fitted to the Z1,A and B
as the linkeage,s are inside the carb body rather than outside on the earlier models
the early ones were prone to wear and can be very difficult to set up correcetly

Bingo
My chassis number is 385**.So looks like I need a set of later carbs .Unless anyone knows otherwise !!!!!!! .I think the carbs are a real candidate for the Anoraks corner when it gets restarted. I would have to agree with Paul regarding adjustment .The carbs on the Z1R were a breeze to set compared to a Z1B and I hate to admit it that the ZIR carburates better than my Z1B.
Thanks to every one who contributed both on site and via PM.

The bodies of these carbs are '72, agreed. The choke lever is however not , without a plan view it's difficult to tell but looks like late Z1A or Z1B style.. there are many differences between 72, 73 & late 74 carbs. There are the obvious ones and then little details such as buff coloured top hat washer on the slide pivots and rubber seal rather than felt annulus' on later ones.. I should write a book!!
