you see the blue zed further back in the build. well, i sold that frame last week which was registered in my name. i feel like i have jumped back 5 places. its like meeting the girl of your dreams. good looks, perfect tits, lovely personality and you get her in bed and she`s got a 7" dick. its that kind of sinking feeling.
i have been in touch with the fella who i bought it off and he has been tops. i dont think its an issue with the money side of things. its just that i am back to not having a legally registered frame. i feel like getting rat arsed and i dont hardly fuckin drink.

i sold a z900 frame which wasn`t registered and a registered z900 frame last week. i have the frame which i bought off chunky still. its too big for the z1 bodywork though. cant use it. it will look a bit odd.
the other problem is, i`ve just had a new stem made. new head bearings, bush for rear wheel, have doctored the swing arm to fit the zed 1000 frame, new shock mounts made.
two months of searching for the right frame wasted. i need to use a z900 or 1000 frame. i`ve gone too far down that road.

i called the lady who sent me the letter today from dvla. she said it was basically down to the person at the local dvla office to decide whether it needed to be inspected prior to re registration. a form, v55/5 needed to be filled out and it would be taken from there. so, down to the local office in boreham wood, north london. i sit and wait my turn thinking i hope i get an english person. there`s so many foreigners working there. you need an interpretor. my number gets called and i`m sat in front of this fella. the situation is explained and he gets the info up on the screen. he`s happy with the fact that the bike came from england in 2006 and it`s still on the system. he gives me a form to fill in and job done. logbook is on its way. i didn`t even have to pay anything. just an hour out of my day. result. i aint doing any more fab work to the actual frame yet though. i want to get the log book in my hand with my name on the front.
one happy bondy.

i got my stuff back today from mike at full metal ornament. couldn`t wait to try the bits on the frame. i had the new stem pressed in by mike. you can see how big the old aprilia one is next to the new one.
the new top nut made to fit inside the top yoke, but screw over the top of the stem. very nice.

this is how the block will be fitted. it will be welded to the inside of the swing arm with a bolt fitted to sit inside the slot of the caliper bracket. it is being held between finger and thumb.
the yokes fit perfectly. i just need to sort out the lock stops. i will cut the hoop off the top yoke where the ignition sat. use the two mounting holes for a bracket to take the speedo asembly.

got the front wheel and mud guard fitted. guard needs to be cut down and shaped a bit. i aint keen on th long front part.
got it on its wheels. i used a standard shock just to take a look to see how it sits. its a bit too low at the back at the moment.
the next job is to get the engine fitted into the frame. that will give me a chance to see how the chain run is. i reckon i will need to cut out the inside of the frame and weld a plate in to give clearance.

just had a play with my new toy. a clinometer off ebay. 22 quid. i have measured the rake and its 24.1 degrees. that should be a bit lively. still need to measure the trail though. i cant raise the back end too much. it will decrease the rake and make it too unstable.
it was 24 deg 45 mins. i need to get the bike out on the drive and measure it again. the garage floor is not 100% flat and even to be honest.
i`ve been outside and had a quick re measure. i wheeled the bike out onto the drive. put a 6 foot level on the ground. zero`d the clino and measured again. 23.9 degrees. aprilia rake is 24.75 on the early ones, or 25 on the later ones. i put a bit of alloy under the front wheel which is 25mm thick and it measured 25 degrees. so, i will either have a new top yoke made to allow the forks to slide down a wee bit with a couple of plugs above or have some fork extension slugs made.

i pulled a string line through from the edges of the rear tyre along to the front tyre. measured the rh side and the gap between the string and front tyre edge was 37mm. did the lh side and it was 36mm. i can live with that. i then put a straight edge along from the outer face of the rear sprocket to the frame rails. i will definately need to cut out the frame to allow the chain to run through.
i received my 14mm tap yesterday. the hole was piloted at 12mm first.
nice and square.

update time. its been over a week since i last posted up any piccy`s. i have been busy fitting the engine. i got some dimensions from andy s off the z1oc forum. i knocked up a couple of upper rear engine mount plates, but the engine sat too far back in the frame. the k & n`s were squashed against the rear frame rail. so, i decided to sit the engine on a couple of strips of steel which were themselves sat on the top of the lower frame rails. this allowed me to get enough clearance between the rail and the underside of the clutch/crankcase cover. i just moved the engine fore and aft to get the positioning correct. i then took some new dimensions and set about making another set of plates.
plates marked out, centre punched, cut and drilled.
my youngest is dead keen on helping me. so, put him to good work.

the rest of the mount plates were measured and fabricated. i still need to make the lower rear ones as these are steel and i don`t have any steel thin enough at the moment.
i want to use the titanium headers from a gixer 1000. they will fit ok with a little bit of modification. i need mike at fullmetalornament to make me some extension tubes to fit inside the bandit 1200 head and the headers will sit inside them. this will push the headers away from the frame. at the moment, the headers hits the frame when they are positioned. just need another set of exhaust gaskets and some longer bolts. i have a set of c clamps for the headers, but when i looked in the bag. there were only 7. fuck, i must have miss placed one somewhere. another job for mike.
the headers in the general position.
when they are fitted tight into the head, they fowl the frame.
so, by moving them away by about 20mm. i can get the clearance needed. i will fit the stainless spacers between.
here are the c clamps.
