Camchain tool

Hello, does anybody know if the club has a camchain rivett tool, or does any member have one they would be willing to lend me to replace my camchain thanks Steve.

Sorry if I am being thick here, but is this for splitting the old chain, or putting a new one together?

You can use a standard drive chain link.
Tho' its best practice to use an endless (non-rivet) chain, but I suppose you don't want to strip the motor down :shock: :wink:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

The tool is to break the chain and refit a new one, I have a reynolds one but it is much too big for a camchain and yes I would much prefer to put an endless chain on but dont relish the thought of splitting the engine, I did do this years ago on my old 900 and I really hammered that and it held up for years so I'm hoping this one will.

Thanks uk kev, That the one, I cant tell the size from the picture but if it's small enough for a camchain link it will be right. The only thing is i'm now erring on the side of splitting the crankcases for peace of mind, if I decide to do this it will be this weekend if I dont I'll contact you soon after.

That's fine, the one I have is the small (#1) for chains from 3/8th to 5/8th.

I think cam chains are just a wee bit smaller than 3/8 . Split the cases and do the job right , replace cam sprockets with Liska and not std as they never wear out .

Hello Fer, I'm fairly sure I will split now but the camshaft sprockets are the only thing I haven't got new they look perfect so I only bought new chain/all the idlers/rollers/shafts/rubbers/guide/tenshioner ?????s.

Gotcha, I went for Liska front and rear idlers but Kawa roller and top idler.
