Engine rebuild

#61 PostAuthor: HARRY4448 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 11:44 am

Chris,
your engine is looking so good now that you're going to have to do the whole bike.

With the correct bolts, of course.

We wouldn't want it any other way.

Well I`ve had a really good weekend despite having to work both days.

I borrowed a piston ring compressor which I have to say is the dogs  and got the barrels on this morning. The head went on this afternoon, twice, as I put the camchain to one side of the bottom guide wheel. The head is only resting there at the moment so I could get the carbs on to do the float heights which went well and is much easier than doing them on the bike.

The head will come off again to fit the engine and I`m gonna need a top idler as mine has some serious play in it. Oh well, more £££££££££££`s.

Before I do put the engine in I should get the clips on to the crankcase bolts for the points wiring. I forget which ones they go on to so if anyone can tell me I`ll be grateful.

The intention is to go naked. Considering how it looked before I can well cope with some weathering and now I have a bike lift cleaning will be much easier.

Mk2 parts books show the position, probably the same for yours. PM me your email address and I'll send the relevant photo.

Guy's right you know. Everyone's eye is going to go STRAIGHT to that rusty smelly scuzzy old bolt.

The whole project ruined - for want of a bit of BZP

The hired muscle came round last night for the cost of a cup of tea.

I`d pulled the engine back as far as poss to make it lighter.

With his excellent jack and blocks we had the engine in as easy as pie. I then remembered the clips that go on the underside of the crankcases so we half removed the engine again :??
I got him to help me on with the head and assembled things as far as I could.

The upper camchain idler arrived from Z Power but is different to the one I had.

It seems it had been replaced with a 900 one so I am missing the necessary collars to fit it. I will either get the right collars or get another 900 idler. It shouldn`t hold things up too much as there is plenty I can be getting on with.
