Day light MOT's
Right chaps heres one for you all. What is a day light MOT and what do you have to do to a standard bike, with lights that dont work very well, to get it through a day light MOT.

Just been down to a local MOT Station and asked the bloke outright. The basic answer is that there is no official daylight MOT. You present your bike for a normal MOT, it then either pass's or fails. In the case of headlights, mirrors, brake lights if they are fitted then they must work, you will not get away with them being masked over. You do however require a horn, this does not have to be run from the engine electrics.
If your bike has no lights etc and pass's you will be given your V30 certificate, but also a V32 which states that the bike had no lights etc at the time of tesing, and should only be used during daylight hours (sound familiar) and not at night or during times of low visibility. This will also advise you to get lights etc.
Lots more info out there in web land..

My mot mate says that if the switch is part off the throttle assembly or clutch lever/brake assembly then its ok.
I also thought you had to have a speedo but i belive its not part of the mot as they have no way off checking if its working. A local guy is selling a suzuki drz400 enduro on ebay. he states that it does not have a speedo because this is how it comes from suzuki but it is fully road legal.
i find it hard to belive that you dont even need a brake light. basicaly if lights are fitted they must work but if you take them all off, inc indicators then you dont need them.

From what i can find out, as long as the bike has a minimum of;
Working horn (continuous electric, no clown hooters).
Working rear brake light.
Full size number plate.
Reflector...
...then it will pass the mot (daylight only). The certificate will be stamped 'daylight use only'. Some will pass it with just the brake light, but it seems to be down to the individual testing it. If you keep lights fitted then taping them up is apparantly good enough. Best to speak to your tester beforehand as its the only guarantee of what they will accept. Its too hit and miss.
