Todays News

Well as of today, the bike is on the bench, and work has started on getting it road fit.

Carbs have been stripped and cleaned (I am hoping to get them in a sonic bath soon) in preperation for the rebuild kits I have coming from the US, but nothing on thei bike looks like it has ever been apart, no bodged screws, no instant gasket, no crap anywhere? which can only be good news. Infact the wiring is all original except for two scotch locks on the horn wiring where a second horn has been added, I can assure you they will be gone soon!
New plugs and caps have been fitted today, and I have done an oil change and new filter. So far the only problem I have encountered has been with the rear master cylinder, this has leaked over time, so needs a rebuild, the parts for which I have just ordered from Holland.

Kev.

Have any of you bought/used the Hel brake line kits as sold on e-bay, if so how was the fit, and quality?

Kev from what I've seen the Hel brake lines are pretty crap, the 'stainless' ones on Scott's 750 rusted up within a year. Goodridge for me as Ive never had any problems with them.

Just like Christmas...

lots of parts are now starting to hit the mat, and the V5c has arrived too, things is looking up  The last two parts I am waiting on are obviously the most important, the carb rebuild kits, and the rear master cylinder rebuild kit, but I have plenty to be getting on with...

My local garage is "good people"

I have spent the day in the workshop, using their bench, and tools, while I work on my bike!
So I rebuilt the carbs, we checked compression, re-fitted the marshall, installed a battery, connected a remote fuel station, full choke, pull in clutch lever, hit fire button, and it started first press, and settled into a nice tickover. Next after it had warmed up for a while, we connected the carb gauges, and they were all in balance, never had to adjust them.
So I am just waiting on some brake seals, and it should be MOT'ed and on the road next week. :D

Another quick update...

It was delivery day again today, that means I have all the parts needed to put the bike back on the road... now don't go getting silly ideas that I have restored it or anything, this was just a "money spanner" exercise, (as Jack would say) I am really just doing enough to get it back where it belongs, out on the road.
The real work will begin when I get it home, then I can start to get it clean, sort the new exhaust, sort the paint etc, but, and this is important, it will never be a show bike, but it will hopefully be a good useable classic, just like my old Z1000 :mor
